The Aim

Our aim in Rhinoplasty surgery is to achieve an overall improvement in facial harmony, emphasizing positive characteristics of the face and restoring balance. We aim to maintain our patients natural facial characteristics ethnicity, and features so ensuring a natural post operative appearance.

Often Rhinoplasty surgery will be combined with other surgery to improve the function of the nose as well. Correction of a crooked septum -Septoplasty is often required to improve the nasal airway and straighten the nose. This can be combined with treatments to reduce nasal allergy response and improve breathing further - Turbinoplasty.

The Procedure

Most operations are undertaken through small incisions within the nose that are closed leaving no external scar.

The operation takes from an hour and a half to 3 hours usually under general anaesthetic. Post operatively significant swelling is rare but some usually occurs for the first week. Most patients will wear a small plaster dressing for first week when it will be removed in our office. The nose will nomally be feeling somewhat stuffy and blocked for the first week and then improve.

Nasal packing is rarely required, instead an absorbable dressing is often used which dissolves with the aid of saline nasal washes you will receive post operatively.

Prior to considering surgery of the nose, one or two consultations is generally required to discuss your individual needs and pre operation photographs will be taken.

The aim of Rhinoplasty surgery is not perfection, but an improvement to your nasal appearance and function. Time off from your usual activities is generally 7-10 days.

Mr Burgess is available to discuss your individual needs by making an appointment with his rooms on 9562 6969.
